TYPES OF DISORDERS DURING LOCKDOWN

One unexpected change in all of our lives is lockdown. The pandemic has given us this exhilarating experience which has its own pros and cons .Well it has given us time to sit, rest and pause from the hustling life . But so many disorders have creeped up during lockdown and it has been so bizarre for some people . People who already have mental illness are more prone to get disorders.

Lets see what are these disorders

  1. Post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD):

This is one of the most common disorders that most of us face . Though we don’t realize this term , most of us face this . All of us must’ve gone through abuse or trauma at some point in our life . And we get flashes of those traumatic incidents sometimes . This is a very basic symptom of PTSD. But symptoms may not show up to years for some people . But this may affect your routine life .

During lockdown social interaction is maximum avoided . And also social media triggers lots of unwanted stuff as we tend to spend most of our time there .

Traumatic survivors tell a drastic increase in PTSD. This include falshbacks, hypervigilance and nightmares .

2. Gaming disorder:

People having lots of free time and can sit idle all day long , so lots of them have got into gaming and tend to be addicted . Gaming is a big time addiction these days and the lockdown has worsened the condition .

Online gambling has increased multifold and there’s an increase in suicides due to this online gaming and gambling. Most of youngsters have fallen prone to it .

Children tend to keep their phone with them for so long and due to online classes, these conditions tend to increase.

3. Sleep disorders:

Anxiety , uncertainities, stress, depression prevent sleep and leads to sleep disorders . People lose their routine life and hence lose their regular sleep pattern.

Interestingly people who have lung related issues also get sleep disorders during pandemic .

4. Eating disorders:

Some people eat to live ,some people live to eat . With variety of food options available people indulge in different kinds of food and find it as stress buster. But over eating increases stress and leads to lots of disorders.

Eating disorder is indirect emotional disorders, provide the person with a way of coping and managing difficult feelings or emotions.

There are 3 types of eating disorders,

· Anorexia — when people tend to see themselves as over weight but theyre actually underweight.

· Bulimia — uncontrollable eating and then compensating

· Binge eating- Eating huge amounts of food

So much come out during these testing times but all we must have is hope , faith and keep ourselves as happy as possible .
